The long-standing experience and eight decades worth of hard earned knowledge on viniculture render the Bassi family a dynamic player in today’s competitive Greek quality wine market.
The company was established in 1925 by a pioneer named Anastassios Bassis. Later, it was passed on to his son Konstantine, who expanded the operation and established a model winery in the area of Avlona, in Attika. This model winery fully utilizes the concept of gravity in wine making.
Today, it is up to Bordeaux-maker Tassos Bassis,chemist-enologist, to continue the viniculture tradition of the renown wine maker family, who is determined to outmatch his father and grandfather by introducing the estates first bottled brand.
THE VINEYARD . . .
The estate’s bottled wine is produced from the proprietary linear vineyard, located on the slopes of mount Parnitha, thriving with selected grape varieties such as the international Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay varieties, and the Greek varieties of Roditis & Savatiano. These varieties prosper in Northern Attica’s microclimate, as per the latest biological cultivation specifications and rarely yield over 1000 kilograms per 1000 s.m. Vintage is performed by hand and placed in crates, while grapes are transported to the stainless containers immediately upon picking.
THE WINERY . . .
The Bassis family model winery in Avlona comprises equipment made of steel and was designed to include multiple elevation levels so as to best utilize the valuable concept of gravity in wine-making.
A modern mustification room, pneumatic presses, stainless static refining tanks, cooled fermentation rooms and the isobaric bottling room ensure high quality wine year after year…
VINIFICATION . . .
White wines are vinified under controlled temperature conditions, stabilized directly and bottled in the same year of production. Red wines undergo the necessary infusion and age under ideal conditions in small French oak barrels located in the estate’s cellar.
