The red variety (also Kalloniatiko) comes from Greece . It is not yet clear whether it is a stand-alone variety, corresponding DNA are still open (as of 2013). The medium to late maturing grape is generally resistant to disease. The on the island of Lesvos grown variety was almost entirely in the 1950s by the phylloxera wiped out. It has been reactivated by a single producer in 1985. In 2010, 60 hectares were planted with it again.
