All about Drama, East Macedonia.

It all began in Eastern Macedonia in the 1980s, when in the early years of that decade Mr. Nico Lazaridis set out along his chosen path after a successful  business route in natural decorative marbles to setting up a new winery . His decision to becoming a wine-maker was illuminated by his faith in the winemaking tradition of the region and his confidence in its revival.

In 1987 we saw the creation of NICO LAZARIDΙ, the first wine-producing facility in the Drama region, in Greece. An ancient tradition had been regenerated and the wines bearing the label CHÂTEAU NICO LAZARIDΙ immediately won the esteem of wine-lovers around the world.

The winery “CHÂTEAU NICO LAZARIDI” is based in the municipal district of Agora of the county of Drama, whereas its vineyards are extended in the farmland of Agora, Pigadia and Adriani, estimated to take up 80 hectares   and there are adopted methods of integrated cultivation with full respect to the environment.

Here, the climate is Mediterranean, temperate and dry, depending on the season. The vines are protected by the sheltering mountains and the conditions are ideal for varieties like Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Ugni Blanc, Chardonnay, Grenache Rouge, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese.

An innovative winery was built to produce exceptional wines. An ultra-modern facility that safeguards and develops the quality characteristics of carefully selected grapes.

The main products are Château Nico Lazaridi White and Red, Rosè Nico Lazaridi, the Magic Mountain White and Red, Perpetuus White and Red ,the natural sweet wines Moushk and Melissourgos, the mono-varietal Merlot and Trebbiano Late Harvest and the sparkling white wine Solitaire.

The artistic sensitivity of the company is confirmed throughout the remarkable collection of pieces of art which adorn the labels of its wines. Year after year these paintings decorate the labels of Magic Mountain and are exhibited in the gallery of «Magic Mountain» which name was given due to the special love to the Pangeon Mountain, which is situated across the winery.

Aiming at the exploitation of the products of the broader Macedonian land, in 2000 the winery of “MACKEDON” was constructed in the county of Kavala and is based in the municipal district of Platanotopos at the feet of Pangeon Mountain, where lies a 10 hectares vineyard. The philosophy of this winery is the production of excellent quality mono- varietal wines with modern traits.

In “Mackedon” winery, the wines which are being produced are  Lion ď Or Chardonnay, Lion ď Or Cabernet Sauvignon, Black Sheep Syrah and Semillon-Sauvignon and  King  & Queen of Hearts.

The company has obtained EN ISO 9001:2008 and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point certification (HACCP) from TÜV NORD CERT.

All the wineries of NICO LAZARIDI can be visited.
