potamissi

Potamissi grape

The white grape variety native to Greece . Synonyms are Aspropotamiosio, Aspropotamissi, Potamisi, Potamisiès, Potamisio, Potamisio Lefko and Potamissio Lefko. When DNA is a suspected relationship to the variety has Early Muscat not confirmed. Whether a connection to the red variety exists, is not known. The medium-maturing, high yielding vine is susceptible to coulure . It provides rather simple, alcohol-and acid-rich white wines, sometimes with a slight taste of tannins. These are used exclusively as waste. The variety is on the Cyclades in the Aegean , and on the Ionian Islands Kythera.
