The VAENI Naoussa Co-op is one of the most highly progressive wine-producing units in Greece.
It is a giant producer representing 50 per cent of the local wine production, which comes from an area renowned for its exquisite red wines. The co-operative counts 200 members -experienced vine growers- who are driven by their profound love for quality wines. That vital human factor, combined with the use of advanced technology, can guarantee the quality of the wine, which is mainly sourced from Xinomavro, an indigenous variety dominating northern Greece.
The winery is staffed with qualified experts and operates according to the European standards. It is situated within the boundaries of the viticultural region, which is an advantage for the product itself. What characterizes the company’s course is experience, reliability and an artistic feeling.
Today the VAENI wines are exported to China, Russia, the USA, Canada, Kazakhstan, Australia, Dubai, N.Zealand, Japan, Ukraine, Belarus, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Poland, England, Serbia and Cyprus. Their distinctive superiority can be identified right from the first drain.
The VAENI Naoussa Co-op, wishing to ensure the quality of the wine and aiming to support and promote the product in Greek and foreign markets, has been a member of the following wine-related organizations:
- Wine Producers Association of the Northern Greece Vineyard
- National Interprofessional Organization of Vine and Wine
The winery was built in 1984 together with the establishment of the wine co-operatives, and it is situated at the 22nd Km Veria-Edessa Rd. As it stands today, it consists of separate sections for vinification, cask and bottle ageing (at the basement of the building), bottling and storing of the finished products. On the first floor there is a chemistry and analysis laboratory as well as the accounts department. The winery also includes a reception room and a wine boutique. All places are accessible to visitors.
Apart from the premises, the co-operative owns a current acreage of 2,3 hectares (23 stremmata), 2 of which are planted with the Merlot variety and the rest 0,3 ha with the Xinomavro variety. Planting density is 3.300 plants per hectare.
The vines are linear, developed at double lanyard and allow of short pruning. The rootstock onto which Xinomavro has been grafted is the 110R whereas the 1103P has been used for the Merlot.
On a stretch of this land we practice organic farming, for experimental purposes, and the cultivation is certified as organic by DIO (authorized Organization).

Slightly medicinal nose, small dark berries and medicinal herbs. Tart dark berry fruit on the palate, hints of tar and some violets, firm, delicately juicy, piquant bitter herbaceous notes, medium, integrated tannins, has backbone, light acid bite, clear vareital character, also shows its origins, light mineral notes, already quite harmonious, but still has some way to go in its development, slightly astringent on a very good finish.
