In 1905 grandfather Giorgos Vassiliou, born and raised in the Messogia area of Attica, planted estate vineyards to produce wine. His son, Panagiotis Vassiliou, the second generation producer, continued in his father’s footsteps.
After completing his studies in the University of Dijon, France, his grandson, Giorgos Vassiliou, became head of the family business and established Domaine Vassiliou winery at Koropi, Attiki. The winery’ s aim is to produce branded, fine wines by combining the family’s century of experience and passion with European technology.
The 150 acres of Domaine Vassiliou vineyards are located in the Koropi area in Attica on a rich, light and well drained soil.
The varieties growing include the traditional Savvatiano, Roditis and the fragrant Assyrtiko.
The Winery, is a state of the art unit equipped with horizontal pressers and inox vats. Visitors may tour around the underground cooling facilities before they come to the large wooden door that leads to the cellar. Here the wine ferments and rests in old oak French barrels. The almost nonexistent lighting, the controlled temperatures and humidity allow the wine to gain its distinct personality.
